New Zealand Citizens
New Zealand citizens are generally granted the Special Category (subclass 444) visa upon their arrival into Australia. This visa enables you to enter, stay, work or study in Australia for as long as you remain a New Zealand citizen.
Eligible New Zealand citizens
New Zealand citizens who were living in Australia on 26 February 2001, or lived in Australia for at least one year in the two years immediately before 26 February 2001 are known as ‘Eligible New Zealand Citizens’ (ENZC) – this has a different meaning than just being a New Zealand Citizen who may be eligible for something.
ENZCs have the same rights and entitlements as permanent residents and are able to sponsor family under the relevant family migration visa streams.
If you are a New Zealand citizen who entered Australia after 26 February 2001 on the Special Category (subclass 444) visa, you are still entitled to live and work in Australia indefinitely, however are unable to sponsor family for permanent residence in Australia.
